Congratulations to Jagmeet Singh!

Jagmeet Singh’s name has been in the rise, especially after he won a critical Burnaby South byelection on February 25, 2019. This victory allows him to lead his party, NDP, within the House of Commons. In his victory speech, Singh pledged to help NDP reconnect with Quebec voters who have drifted away, all in an effort to realise the political ambitions of Jack Layton, the party’s former leader.

Singh’s political career can be traced back to 2011 when he contested the 2011 federal election. Before entering politics, he began his career as a criminal defence lawyer for different law firms. He stated that his background in criminal defence has huge contributions to his decision to enter politics, where he is known for advocating the protection of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

U-bicycle’s COO, Mew Pan, had a chance to meet Singh last month to discuss about the future of cities in Canada. We couldn’t be more excited to hear that Singh is very supportive to the idea of a smart and sustainable city and that he is aligned to this vision by expressing enthusiasm to bike-sharing programs.

Now that Singh is residing in the same province as where U-bicycle operates, we are excited to see what the future has to unveil for his political career and U-bicycle development in BC!
